- Tell your friends where you are, or take someone with you. Running may seem like a lone person sport but trail running is when problems can arise because of the unevenness of the terrain. At the very least, take a cell phone with you in the case of emergencies, bring fluids and a snack in case you get too tired, keep a small item next to you to help fend off any attackers and make sure you are aware of your surroundings.
- Don’t go off trail. Trails are pre-groomed for runners for a reason, and anyone cocky enough to try and run off the trail because they think they can, will fall, as pride will go. The fact is, trails in Singapore are minor but can still be dangerous.
- Get proper trail running shoes: Trail running shoes differ from shoes that handle on tarmac and road. Trail shoes generally are lower to the ground instead of a higher base that most road shoes use to cushion the impact. This is to make sure that the chances of ankle rolls will be reduced. Trail shoes also have a better traction on trails, especially when their sole treads are more rugged in comparison to normal running shoes.
