On Saturday, RUN Singapore, together with trainers at CELL gym, held a kinesiology taping session for those who wanted to know more about taping.
For some of us, taping seems to be a rather intricate art. You can’t just take your masking tape and use it to tape up wounds like what some people choose to do in replacement of plasters.
The session, as conducted by the physical trainer and physiotherapist Dan, was an informative one as he explained the reasons why people tape up, why kinesiology tape was especially used to tape up, and the different methods of doing so.
With N-Tape sponsored by Nitto, the RUN SG team helped to distribute colourful tape for each of the participants to try, while Dan demonstrated what shapes and methods of taping worked for different body parts.
Using participants, he went through the common running injuries and taping shapes, explaining how and why they had to be in that way.
Breaking the participants down in groups, he then set them out to work pasting the tape on each other, cutting them to make the appropriate shapes and lengths.
From runners knee to the inflamed plantar fasciitis and even incorrect posture, participants worked through all the issues, some reporting an improved feeling in their body as the taping helped to realign body parts.
All in all, the event was an informative, interactive class and many took the opportunity thank the trainers at CELL for a better understanding of this practice.
