The annual National Vertical Marathon took place at the South Beach Tower this year.

The National Vertical Marathon took its race to a new venue this year. Held at the South Beach Tower on 21st May, the race takes the climbers up 34 storeys. It may not sound like much, but the individual levels of the building feature high ceilings and the run to the top takes runners up 170 vertical metres.

Since the Sky Garden of the South Beach Tower is situated at the 21st storey, runners that have finished at the top get into the elevator on the 34th storey and ride partway back down to the viewing platform and medal collection area.

There was no problem with that though, as the NTU Sports Club continued its streak of organising excellent sports events. This is the 23rd consecutive year that the event is being held, and the first time that the South Beach Tower is being used as a venue.

Runners were sent off in organised waves all through the day, and even with the large turnout there was no congestion on the route as the student marshals worked tirelessly to ensure smooth traffic flow.

With student, open and veteran individual categories, along with team and relays, the tower was filled with the noise of running feet from sunrise until the evening, when the last wave was flagged off.

A wide array of post-race activities and sponsorsā€™ stands were stationed around the South Beach Tower compound, making sure that you may have come for the race, but you will stay for the festivities.
