This is the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit, but it’s not another weapon in Nike’s performance arsenal. Yes, it does have an entire midsole engineered with the same ZoomX foam used in Nike’s racy Alphafly and Tempo Next% shoes, but the ZoomX Invincible Run isn’t designed for fast-paced action.
Instead, it’s specifically created to help runners reduce the likelihood of injuries, so they can worry less about what could go wrong and focus more on going the distance – be it a casual trot on the park connector, easy recovery run, or long-distanced endeavour.
First Impressions
The first thing you’d notice about the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit, is how the generous amounts of ZoomX foam that seem to overflow around the toe box and heel to give the shoe a wide appearance.
It may be wider and chunkier than most runners, but the ZoomX Invincible Run feels far slimmer once you lace it on. Immediately noticeable, is how unique the ZoomX Invincible Run feels underfoot. It is at once soft and cushy like a bedroom slipper, yet reassuringly snug, bouncy and supportive. As you step into the shoe and get used to how it feels, it becomes hard to ignore how the shoe, with its subtle rocker, is encouraging you to get out there and hit the streets moving.
On The Run
Nike developed the ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit as an everyday trainer best suited for easy long distance runs. And with its full ZoomX foam midsole, runners can look forward to and responsive ride and improved running economy.
What this actually translates to, is an extremely plush, comfortable ride that is at once balanced, supportive and ‘bouncy’. Clocking in a range of runs spanning both short 5km jaunts, longer 10km efforts and even track sessions, the ZoomX Invincible Run never failed in its ability to inspire confidence with ample cushioning, stability, and an ability to respond to any turn of pace.
The standout quality in the shoe, is how naturally it allows you to hit your stride, find your rhythm and maintain a consistent pace. Easy on the feet, grippy on both dry and damp road conditions and with the ability to spark joy, the ZoomX Invincible Run has convinced us that it is the ideal go-to trainer which you can lace on, and be confident that it’ll enable you to enjoy what the best parts about running. Which for us, is the road ahead, the wind in our hair, and being present in the experience.
The Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit may have set the bar high for what it can easily do over distance, but it’s worth being measured and aware that it’s best attributes are best enjoyed on a steady long distance run. We love that it certainly won’t slow you down if you decide to go fast, but we’re also aware that it isn’t as racy as the other’s in Nike’s performance lineup. The only quibble we have, is the mesh-like flyknit upper’s tendency to warm up on a hot afternoon run, so consider thinner socks instead.
The Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit is available for $259 from nike.com and at selected Nike outlets.
