The SAFRA Singapore Bay Run & Army Half Marathon (SSBR & AHM) is back for its 25th edition this year, celebrating 50 years of National Service in Singapore.
In some cases, this means that there are potentially three generations of runners coming together this year. From first generation soldiers who have become grandparents since, to new recruits that have just entered the army, the event is a celebration of all who have entered and worked through the army system in Singapore.
From the highest decorated of officers to the newest recruit, the run is meant to celebrate the event’s Silver Jubilee, and this means something special this year: a NS50 Team Run category is newly added just for this occasion and this new non-competitive run category provides an opportunity for past and present Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Operationally Ready National Servicemen (ORNS) to participate together as a team and bond.
In this, 10 runners will join a team to complete 5km together in a bid to collectively finish a total distance of 50km. Participants who join this new category can also get limited edition finisher tees and special commemorative medals after finishing.
Other race categories will remain the same, and participants can look forward to running the 21km, the 10km and the 5km Fun Run, along with an 800m event meant for the family.
SAF NSmen and those who have completed their ORNS training cycles will also continue to enjoy significant discounts in appreciation of their contributions to Singapore’s defence. All participating SAF national servicemen can also nominate up to 5 immediate family members to enjoy special rates as low as $12.
The event will be held on the 20th August 2017 and normal registration will be on until the 26th of July this year, so don’t hesitate to sign up and continue the legacy!
