Two years in the making, the New Balance Fuel series has at its launch two inspiring models for runners that are looking for that next level of speed. Focusing on speed, comfort and unparalleled fit, the FuelCore Sonic and FuelCell are two separate but similar approaches to the same goal: to help you go faster with better stability, comfort and safety.
Rather than being engineered around a single material or style, the New Balance Fuel series is built around a single ideology: to go faster for longer.
New Balance FuelCore Sonic
Road cyclists and snowboarders may already be familiar with the Boa® Fit System, but on the running scene, the FuelCore Sonic is one of the few running shoes to be fitted with it. The side mounted dial rotates to tighten the lace, and to release it you simply pull up on the dial to free it up for a quick release.
The fastening system is mounted on the side for a lower profile, and also for better fit and comfort. The wrap-over flap removes any chance of it pressure hotspots, and the lace configuration is carefully engineered to deliver a smooth lockdown, no matter how your foot is shaped. The TX4 lace is made of a blend of polyester and Dyneema, the strongest synthetic fibre in the world.
Fans of the New Balance RevLite foam midsole will be glad to know that it is used to form the backbone of the FuelCore Sonic. A 6mm drop height, breathable air mesh upper and bootie-like fit helps the shoe disappear around your ankle for comfort. Nominal weight for the men’s version comes in at 241 grams.
The outsole is formed with New Balance’s signature solid rubber compound. Lightweight, grippy and dependable, it ensures that you maintain a confident pace over your full distance.
New Balance FuelCell
The FuelCell may use traditional shoe laces, but the design and styling is anything but that. The midsole support features nitrogen infused foam for a powerful, consistent launch with every step.
Put together without any stitching, the inners are devoid of seams for total comfort. There is nothing to chafe against, ever. The New Balance logo is placed towards the rear of the shoe, which allows the textured surfaces of the upper to dominate the design, giving the FuelCell a completely new and distinctive silhouette.
Despite its hard edged looks, the shoe still retains the signature New Balance bootie fit around the ankles for long distance comfort.
Optimised for speed and a quick turn of pace, the FuelCell epitomises the New Balance Fuel philosophy in a bold new forward looking design. Tipping the scales at 295 grams for the men’s style, it is the slightly weightier of the two new designs, but with its more extroverted design it pops right off the tarmac.
Note to readers: The NB FuelCell is not available in Black in Singapore.
