Singaporeans have pride over the areas where they live (Except maybe the residents of Yishun). The Runners League is the opportunity to show how much.
In four races throughout the country, you represent your zone through two race categories and run as fast as possible. All the race timings of each participant in the 10km category will be recorded and added to the participants’ respective zones.
No longer do you have to endure taunts and mocking insults about living in Malaysia (like some people who live in Jurong and Woodlands can attest to having heard at least once in their lives), or being stuck in the industrial heartland (Ubi), or even getting a wall built around the area so that no one should ever have to go there ever again unless necessary (that Sentosa Cove apartment that Sun Ho and Kong Hee live in).
Taking part in this run will let athletes get a bonus for doing well: The top 100 runners of the 10km race category in each run will be computed at the end of the league, and the zones with the fastest combination time will be named the Champion Zone.
Participants from the winning zone will receive a mystery gift on top of their entitlement pack.
The first three legs of the race have had their venues announced: Coney Island, Gardens by the Bay, and Sentosa. The last leg of the race has been teased by organisers as a “Mystery Location”. The only hint dropped is that how not many have gone through this route before and will be an exciting time for all to enjoy and try.
Judging by the areas that have been announced, the theory is that the location will be somewhere in the West, but where? Perhaps people living in that area can help work out the secret that is Leg 4 of the race.
