One of the most highly attended women’s only events in Singapore, the annual Great Eastern Women’s Run has a long and proud tradition to uphold. This year’s race will take place on 12th November and event registration was launched on 19th July at One Raffles Place.

A queue was already forming when we got to the launch venue. This was no surprise given that the first 1000 registrants were entitled to an adidas race shirt, sports bag and a hefty 40 per cent discount on the entry fee.

Kicking off the race registration was Singapore’s own Jasmine Goh, the local winner of last year’s Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon. Tasked with setting a time on the Speed Challenge for others to beat, she dashed along a six-metre stretch and set the pace with a speed of more than 5.5m/sec.

Other registrants who head down to One Raffles Place will have the chance to set their own pace at the Speed Challenge, and those that make it to the leaderboard will win prizes including complimentary race slots and adidas merchandise. All ladies who attempt the Speed Challenge will also be automatically be entered into the grand draw for a chance to win a one-night stay at the Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore.

This year’s GEWR will feature several new categories and innovations, including the new ‘2km Mummy + Me Run’ for mothers and girls aged 7-12 years old. Girls aged 3-6 can still join the 100m Princess Dash.

Other categories are the half-marathon, 10km and 5km Live Great! Fun Run.

The 5km Fun Run will have many new elements along the route for a unique experience, including photo walls and a colourful ball pit to wade through.

An all-new mobile app will be launched in August, providing race related information and monthly challenges to encourage participants to train up.

Runners can also support the ‘Don a Tutu for the Cause’, where with a minimum donation of S$5, participants are provided with a tutu to wear on race day to show their support for the Breast Cancer Foundation and Women’s Health Research and Education Fund.
