Celebrating 10 Years since the launch of the original BOOST back in 2013, Adidas enters the season with an all new light BOOST material which is 30% lighter than the previous BOOST compound featured in its predecessors. The new Ultraboost Light is the first of the series to enter a weight realm and level of function that finally puts it into contention as a performance running shoe.
Adidas designed the Ultraboost Light for running first and foremost, and at the shoe is the product of several rounds of rigorous wear tests by athletes and runners who need top performance from their training and racing footwear. The shoe features a lightweight outsole that provides grip for all kinds of weather and surfaces, and enough flexibility to move in harmony with the new midsole material for a smooth, secure stride.
The new generation of Adidas BOOST midsole is where the magic truly lies. The unique molecule design has a “linear energy point” (LEP) that provides runners with a high level of responsiveness and energy return with each propulsive phase off the ground as the foot transitions through the running gait cycle. For the sustainability gurus, it also leaves a 10% lower carbon footprint than previous Ultraboost models as part of the brand’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint along their complete product lifecycles. From raw material extraction, processing, and packaging, all the way to the end of the product’s life, Adidas calculates and communicates it’s carbon footprint to an internationally recognized standard: ISO 14067.
RUN Singapore had the chance of taking the Ultraboost Light out for a spin during the Adidas Runners Singapore launch event held at the Greek Theatre near the iconic Singapore Flyer. The first thing we liked about it was how the weight and cushioning were consistent with what a runner would look for in a neutral daily training shoe – highly cushioned with large amounts of BOOST foam that helps to drop the weight and a snug Prime knit upper that nicely conforms over our feet – perfect for those easy miles, long runs and even casual days.
We also appreciated the slightly wider fit of the shoe and were pleasantly surprised by the how the one-piece upper felt secure around the feet. The ride experience was great - the underfoot is stable and cushioned in the heel. It also feels slightly firmer in the forefoot with a plastic plate which forms part of the LEP system that helps facilitate motion forward.
One thing is certain this season – the Ultraboost Light is making a huge leap forward!
