The Unlabelled Run came into being just a few years ago, when the New Charis Mission’s executive director, Don Wong, proposed the idea of holding an event to generate awareness of the good work done by former criminal offenders to the community.
The unlabelling of an individual, and the opportunity to become a productive member of society again, is the idea behind the event’s name. Numbers have been steadily increasing since the first edition was held in 2016, and for 2019 you can expect more than 5000 runners to attend the event, which comprises of a 10km Competitive Run and 5km Fun Run, starting from the Angsana Green at East Coast Park on the morning of 20th July.
The competitive category offers cash prizes for the winners, and the race is set to start at 7:00AM, while the 5km Fun Run will flag-off 25 minutes after.
The event aims to go beyond the notion of reintegration and second chances for ex-convicts. It advocates a conscious effort to remove the labels on not just transformed ex-offenders but also everyone in general.
The New Charis Mission and event organisers believe that transformed ex-offenders can contribute actively to society and every person in our midst, without prejudice, can and will be recognised for his or her merit.
Join in the race to raise awareness of the unlabelling movement at the Unlabelled Run.
