Trust ASICS to launch its first new collection of 2021 with a reminder that being in the right frame of mind is just as important as being physically well.

Bringing to bear its core values “Sound Mind Sound Body”, or Anima Sana In Corpore Sano – the Latin phrase for which ASICS is an acronym for – the new Sunrise Red Collection of running shoes builds on the idea of the rising sun as a symbol of hope and renewal.

Eye-catching, in the hues of Red and Orange, the shoes in the collection are a nod to the anticipated Tokyo Olympics (finger crossed), and feature both male and female versions of the shoe. Catering to the varied preferences of runners, the new ASICS Sunrise Red Collection comprises the ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 23 TOKYO, GEL-CUMULUS 22 TOKYO, NOVABLAST TOKYO and GEL-KAYANO 27 TOKYO.

The Sunrise Red Collection

Runners with a penchant for longer distances will delight in the comfort and support in either of the gender-specifc GEL-NIMBUS 23 TOKYO ($259) or GEL-KAYANO 27 TOKYO ($259) models.

In the GEL-NIMBUS 23 Tokyo, runners will delight in the softness of the mesh up over longer distances ability of the shoe to soak up the impact that comes with each footfall. Trusstic midsoles in both the men’s and women’s shoes are offer just the right amount of support in the right direction to make each transition a seamless one.

In the GEL-KAYANO 27 TOKYO, comfort and stability remain the hallmark of the shoe while a softer, lower density FLYTEFOAM midsole cushions each step and protects the foot.

Put through its paces during the 5km morning canter during the launch, we got to really experience how the arch support in the men’s shoe and just how well the shoe works to support each footstep to offer confidence born out of the stability of the shoe and ability of the Space Trusstic feature to keep up with any turn of direction or surge in pace.

Neutral runners keener on an everyday trainer that’s comfortable and light with a softer more pillowy ride will find the GEL-CUMULUS 22 TOKYO ($189) and its lightweight cushioning most suitable to their needs.

Lastly, runners keener on a faster shoe will find the NOVABLAST TOKYO ($199) an ideal running companion. A lightweight mesh upper and FLYTEFOAM BLAST tech in the midsole combines to give runners that literal breezy spring in each step.

The ASICS Sunrise Challenge

Just as we got to experience what it was like to start the day right with a 5km canter around the Civic District, and a mesmerising sunrise yoga session at the helipad atop the Swissôtel the Stamford, ASICS is hoping to spread positivity in our community with its Sunrise Challenge.

Up for grabs, is either a pair of either the new GEL-CUMULUS 22 TOKYO or NOVABLAST TOKYO shoes from the new Sunrise Red Collection. To enter, participants simply need to:

  • Get up and out in the morning at sunrise. It could be a run, walk, sport or physical activity.

  • Take a selfie and a caption with a little mindful sharing about how it helps you move your mind.

  • Post this up on Instagram, nominate 3 other friends to do the challenge in the post, and include the #SoundMindSoundBody and #ASICSSunriseChallenge hashtags. Naturally, your account has to be public and you’ll need to follow and tag @asicssg.

The ASICS Sunrise Red Collection is available from $189 at all ASICS outlets, and online at the ASICS website.
