And Seeing Light in The Darkest of Things – (Light Of Hope 2017)

Light of Hope 2017 returns with the same spirit of bringing awareness to mental disorders.

RUN SINGAPORE BY | UPDATED 7 YEARS AGO

The Light of Hope run returns this year with a brand-new logo, a significant name change, but the same spirit of bringing awareness to mental disorders.

Previously known as the Make A Difference Race, the organisers at TOUCH Community Services have changed the name of the event to reflect a better aim. The new logo signifies love, light and hope, where it encourages all who suffer from mental health issues to step out of darkness into the light.

The event is created in such a way to promote their aim: to raise awareness of disorders such as Major Depressive Disorder, to encourage and empower participants, and to help each other understand how those with mental health issues need the support of the community in order to function normally.

Just like the years before, the event will feature a 7km competitive run, where runners have to collect seven wristbands with empowering messages for every kilometre covered. The aim of the collection is to encourage the participants and those who are struggling to get through the day to live on and keep strong.

The event will also have a 3.5km buddy fun run/walk, where partners work together to finish the race while also completing four challenge stations, either physical or mental. This race depicts the need and assistance of those who have mental health issues from families and friends so that they can complete tasks and get through life.

The event is here for the third consecutive year and is likely to stay. The organisers hope to get 2,500 participants to participate in their competitive and buddy runs, along with a carnival that all will be able to enjoy.

Light of Hope Run 2017 is $90 for 2 persons for the 3.5km Buddy Category and $60 for the 7km Run Category. More information can be found on www.lightofhope.sg.
